Nixon Memorial Hospital in Sierra Leone. Like many places devastated by the Ebola outbreak they lost doctors and nurses as well as many members of the community. They are still recovering and we continue supporting them in this uphill exercise. The Stamford Methodist Church has already donated over £4,000 for this work some of which has been used to train hospital staff in Infection and Prevention Control prior to the re-opening of the nursing school after the Ebola outbreak. The conditions at the hospital are very very basic and we shall raise as much as we can to help the hospital to become fully functioning again for the local community. So much more needs to be done.

Dementia Support South Lincs (a new local charity) supports around 200 families in South Lincolnshire, helping to improve the quality of life of people living with dementia and their carers and reduce the sense of social isolation associated with the condition. Our services include one-to-one advice and information, emotional support from our memory health care worker and peer support at monthly meetings where members can share experiences or take part in an activity.

Phoenix Children’s Foundation. The foundation was established as a UK registered charity in 2006 and raises funds to provide disabled, special needs and terminally ill children with specialist equipment and therapeutic activities throughout the UK. Our aim is to help the children with their physical and mental development to enhance the quality of their lives. You may have seen them fundraising in your area with their mascot miniature Shetland ponies: primarily used as therapeutic petting ponies when we visit children’s hospices, care homes and schools. They are adored by everyone they meet (children and adults alike), and they help us enormously not only in their fund-raising efforts but also in spreading the word about the charity. The charity relies entirely on the generosity of the general public for its funding. One of the policies of the charity is to endeavour where possible to allocate funding to support the disabled and severely ill children in the area in which it is raised.

Stamford Methodist Church Youth Outreach Programme provides a Youth Outreach Worker to work with children and young people across Stamford. A large part of the work is with various primary and secondary schools around Stamford and New College Stamford and also youth work at Stamford Methodist Church. The Youth Outreach Worker is also a valued member of the Stamford Street Pastors team.
